What is a public IP address?

A public IP address identifies your internet connection when you visit websites, use apps, or connect to online services. It is usually assigned by your internet service provider and can change over time.

Why does IP location look approximate?

IP location is based on network routing and provider databases. It can usually identify the country or region, but it should not be treated as an exact GPS location.

IPv4 vs IPv6

IPv4 is the older address format and is still widely used. IPv6 is the newer format with a much larger address space. Some networks support both at the same time.

Can someone find my home address from my IP?

No. An IP address can reveal general network information such as ISP and approximate city, but it does not reveal your street address or personal identity by itself.
